In a hadith narrated by Hazrat Umar (Radhiyallahu Anhu), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“If you were to rely upon Allah with the reliance He is due, He would provide for you just as He provides for the birds. They leave their nests in the morning with empty stomachs and return in the evening with full bellies.”
Whenever I face uncertainty—whether it’s about my career, relationships, or even a simple decision—I do everything within my ability and then place my trust in Allah. That trust is called Tawakkul. I rely on Allah, and you should too.
No matter who you are or what you’re going through right now, look back at your life. You’ll realize that every experience—whether it was the loss of a loved one, financial hardship, a broken relationship, or a disappointment—played a role in shaping the person you are today. What seemed painful at the time often carried wisdom that became clear only later.
The lesson from our own life stories is this: Allah’s plan has always been better than what we could have planned for ourselves. There are countless difficulties from which He has protected us without us even realizing it.
If Allah has always willed what is ultimately best for you, then why should the uncertainty of today make you lose hope? Whatever lies ahead, trust that He is fully capable of bringing you through it. Allah loves His believing servants, and His mercy is greater than His wrath. Place your hope in that mercy.
So remind yourself:
“Alhamdulillahi ’ala kulli haal” — All praise and thanks belong to Allah in every circumstance.
No one knows the future except Allah. But if you reflect on your past, you’ll see His wisdom and mercy throughout your journey. Trust that the One who has taken care of you until today will continue to guide you toward what is best, In shaa Allah.
However, Tawakkul does not mean sitting back and doing nothing. We are commanded to take the necessary means.
Anas bin Malik (Radhiyallahu Anhu) narrated that a man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ:
“O Messenger of Allah, should I tie my camel and rely upon Allah, or leave it untied and rely upon Allah?”
The Prophet ﷺ replied:
“Tie it and then rely upon Allah.”
This is the balance that Islam teaches. We make every sincere effort within our capacity, and then we leave the outcome to Allah with complete trust, knowing that whatever He decrees will always be what is best for us.
